Arohanui:

God's big love

I'm God's favourite

I can’t help it you know. I blame my parents really. It’s definitely their fault that I’ve developed this sneaky suspicion that I am God’s favourite.

I think it all started when I was very young, as the eldest child and grandchild I spent the first few years of my life experiencing what someone once called “heathen baby worship”. I was adored. Everything I did was cause for great celebration.

Even when my sister came on the scene I was still firmly convinced of my status as the “favourite”, of God, of mum, of dad, of grandma etc. I understood that a baby needed attention, however I assumed that mum would have rather spent time with me… but she had to look after the baby. You know, not that she wanted to…..

I am not sure how this situation has impacted my poor sister, does she too think she is the favourite perhaps or did I hog that adoration a little too much?

Regardless of how it came about, I have always had an unshakable belief that God loves me, a lot. Probably more than anyone else.

I know it is illogical and that he loves everybody, and I believe that we can all be his favourite but I really feel like his favourite. I feel his love every day. I feel surrounded by his presence and his closeness.

Even in my teenage years of rebellion and anger I knew he was there, waiting with open arms for me to come back to him.

This unshakable belief has served me well. It makes it easy to pray, I know he is there listening to me, just waiting to hear what I have to say. I know he is interested in my daily life and cares about all the little things that happen. I know that he will forgive me for anything I could possibly do wrong and above all else I know that I am loved.

Everything in me that is good has been built on that foundation of love, of Gods approval. I know that I can stand firm on his love, when the world is horrible and life is tough I know that I am still his favourite and he has something good in store for me.

I wish everyone in the world could feel what I feel. I hope that you, my friend can feel that suspicion that you are his favourite. Because his heart is so big that he can have many favourites. He loves you, more than anyone else and is asking you to be his favourite too.
