Nomad Podcast :"Not the most with-it guys"
"Wide reading" was encouraged at University. We were told that we should learn what the lecturer taught, but we also needed to read widely. We were encouraged to read different research from different veiw points in order to get a good rounded understanding of a topic.
I recommend the same, there are so many incredible podcasts and international speakers available online for free for our encouragment and to keep us thinking.
Here I want to introduce you to one of my favourite podcasts, Nomad.
Nomad Podcast
My favourite quote from the nomad website is “They are not the most "with-it" bunch of guys, but great guests and topics!”. I also love the fact that they selected this quote to sum up their podcasts. It's nice to see people who can laugh at themselves!
They make me laugh. Currently Nomad is made up of Tim and Dave, two blokes from the UK who tackle the questions of what it means to be followers of Jesus in our world today, questions of mission, community and the future of the church. They put it as "pooling their theological naiveté and blundering through interviews".
They are funny, they are fascinating and they are insightful and somehow they manage to get some of the most prominent Christian thinkers of our time on their show. During their post interview reflections we learn about their lives, their challenges and how Dave enjoys the life of a farrier, nailing horses to shoes.
For me they have been a beacon of hope when I felt like I was drowning in people telling me how to live my life. They invite their listeners into the journey of exploring how to live their lives in line with their beliefs and encourage others to explore also.
This podcast was exactly what I needed to remind me of how the early church functioned, how we need to challenge ourselves and most of all, has convinced me (an introvert) of the importance of Christian community. These people are asking the same questions I have been asking but unlike me, they have actually got off their bums and found people to ask. The interviews are the result.
My favourite interview is one with Nadia Bolz-Weber called "How not to be a boring Christian" . After hearing it I went out and bought her book; "Cranky, Beautiful Faith" which I thoroughly enjoyed.
If you have ever wondered why you like Jesus but dislike religion this is the podcast for you. If you want to hear the nonsense that real Christians discuss when they are learning and challenging themselves, this is for you. If you want to hear some of the most famous Christian thinkers interviewed, then this is for you.
Have a look at their website, listen to a podcast and let me know if you enjoy Nomad or hate it and tell me why.

"Science Mike" McHargue was a passionate, Bible believing Christian. That is, until he actually read the whole Bible, and then he lost his faith. But after 2 years as a closet atheist he rediscovered faith through science and mysticism.
