Arohanui:

God's big love

It's fun to find fault

Why do we feel the need to point out other peoples issues?

There’s a scripture (Matthew 7 verse 3) saying that before you point out the speck in your brothers eye take care of the plank in your own eye.

Basically saying it’s easy to see things in other peoples’ lives, but much harder to see them in your own life. Even when your issue is bigger. Be careful that you are perfect before you try to sort someone else out.

I don’t think it helps to point out sin in someone else’s life. I have found that God does a much better job of helping someone notice and overcome an issue than we ever could.

The whole point of churching is to be inclusive. Our role as churchees (technical made up term to describe those who attend church) is to welcome people in and help them to connect with God.

I experienced the opposite when I started attending church while living with my boyfriend many moons ago. Right away quite a few people decided to point out that it was wrong and God was mad at me.

Whether these (unhelpful) people were correct or incorrect is not the point. Until I believed the bible and God I had no reason to care when they said I was doing something wrong. Helping me to get to know God would have been much more useful.

Maybe it’s just me but people talking about my sinfulness did not make me feel cared for or loved. I felt as if I wasn’t good enough to explore the concept of faith until I met certain criteria.

That’s a bit backwards isn’t it?

Our role as Christians is to help people to understand God so that they can make their choice. Then it is their responsibility to start the journey with God.

People who are searching are in a vulnerable place, they are trying to be open to the concept of God. Show them Gods love and let God work in them, however he wants to. The truth will shine out. That they will figure out what pleases God and what doesn’t.

“Let he who is without sin throw the first stone” John chapter 8 verse 7.
